Our employees are our greatest asset. We are keenly aware that our organization, and the campus, would not function without the dedication and hard work of our staff. After reviewing the results of our 2022 Employee Engagement Survey conducted by McLean & Company, three areas were identified that could improve the employee experience - Career Advancement, Recognition & Appreciation, and Work Life Balance.

New Custom Stole Program at the UC Santa Barbara Campus Store.
For five decades, we have had the privilege of welcoming a variety of guests and programs on our vibrant campus. Together, along with our HDAE partners, we have helped student leadership, outreach, faith-based, professional, athletic, environmental, and academic groups achieve their goals at UCSB every summer.
Much like doing laundry at home, our residents can now use the machines without a payment module. In addition to not having to pay for this service per load or cycle, our residents can see which machines are available for use in their residential communities by downloading the SpeedQueen application, as well as benefit from other built-in user experience options.
The 9th annual Deepening Understanding Conference is on Wednesday, March 27.This year’s conference theme is “The Strength Within,” and we are excited to announce that our Keynote speaker is Willie Brown! Join us for this opportunity to hear from Willie about what makes HDAE strong and the source of his own strength. Learning opportunities are as diverse as our staff. We will have 13 different workshops to help you discover your strength in diversity and inclusivity.

HDAE A&C Committee Chalks Up Another Year
From the San Miguel mural to the first annual Chalk & Music Fest, the Arts & Culture committee took 2023 from the ChI-5 to the Manzanita side UCSB style! (Cruz, 1996).
Welcome Jared Martinez, HDAE’s new Wellness Coordinator!
Jared recently joined UCSB in March. In his role as the HDAE Wellness Coordinator, he interacts with all departments in HDAE, leading HomeStretch, Wellness Learn at Lunches, fitness activities, and more. In May, Jared made his mark by helping to lead UCSB's UC Move effort. Take a look at the article he authored in this issue of the Compass.
